Chocolate Day:

Chocolate Day Celebration

Chocolates are loved by everyone across the world. Besides being healthy, chocolates are great stress busters and augment concentration and focus.

International Chocolate Day is celebrated on 7th July every year. A plethora of activities were conducted by the chocoholics at our school.

A range of interdisciplinary activities unified concepts allowing students to engage in relevant activities providing an amalgamation of life skills, to infusing communication, mathematical and scientific attributes throughout the school.

The students of the Pre-primary enjoyed making the ‘Oreo Bites’, counting and decorating chocolate balls, as well as making an oven-free ‘Oreo Bread Cake’. Rhymes on ‘Chocolates’ and ‘Chocolate Cake’ were recited with joy and expression.

Primary students enjoyed a virtual trip to the Chocolate Factory, they were exposed to the invention of chocolates which was very interesting and informative. The Infinite Chocolate Bar Paradox provided a mathematical touch to the concept of solving some calculative word problems, and arranging numbers, in ascending and descending order, using chocolates as manipulatives. Poems and rhymes on chocolates gave a good rhythm to the day. Interesting stories were narrated in Hindi, the steps involved to make and enjoy a hot chocolate drink added to the fun element.

The students from the Secondary section composed acrostic poems, created a bank of adjectives, designed attractive wrappers, phrased jingles for their chocolate creations and learnt to follow the steps involved for the chocolate-making recipes. Students were also briefed about the cocoa plantations, the countries producing chocolates, and the nutritional benefits of chocolate.

Learning is never complete by simply engaging students in academics alone. Skill development through various activities is crucial. With this view, the psychosocial skills were developed through an activity involving distribution of chocolates to the community helpers to express gratitude for their services.

The joy of celebrating Chocolate Day with their classmates was seen on the gleaming faces, as the students bid goodbye for the day with sweet memories.

“Happiness is ……… an unexpected piece of chocolate.”
